DC Power
I added a fuse Block between the battery and the DC power panels as an extra precaution for overload protection. (see DC Fuse Block)
Bilge Pump
I rarely get any water in the boat, and when I do a sponge will clear the bilge with a swipe or two. I usually vacuum the bilge to clean it. But I would never be without a bilge pump. I have a manual Whale Urchin pump located on the wall of the port cockpit seat. I rebuilt the pump over the winter with new rubber flap valves, diaphragm and gator. The gator covers the surface of the pump and acts as a flexible gasket. The original gator had a lot of UV damage being exposed to the sun, so I found and installed a plastic cover to protect it. The picture does not show the removable handle that inserts into the pump for its manual operation. I like the location because it would allow me to pilot the boat single handed and pump if there is a problem.
Rudder Pin
Like many I have a problem with my rudder kicking up while sailing. It does not move much, just a couple of inches, but it does add weather helm and additional stress on the rudder and its components. I installed a bushing in the fiberglass rudder segment. It is a bronze bushing incased in epoxy to prevent water penetration into the fiberglass or core of the ruder. I then drilled and mounted a stainless steel pin into the aluminum flanges of the rudder assembly passing through the bushing in the fiberglass rudder section. (See Rudder Pin)
Starboard Cockpit Locker
Just a couple of quick ideas.
I have installed some hooks for hanging extra dock lines. This keeps them off the bottom of the locker helping to prevent condensation or drying if any water finds its way into the locker.
Additionally, I mark my fire extinguishers with the date of purchase and replace them every three years (or at expiration date if they have one)
